Lethbridge College names Michael Kindley Spring 2023 valedictorian

Lethbridge College’s Spring 2023 valedictorian Michael Kindley says he came to the college because of the excellent volleyball program and the chance to be a part of the great athletics community and culture the team is known for. But he stayed – for a full five years – because of the quality of education he received while representing the institution.

Lethbridge College receives $300,000 SILP grant to support newcomers interested in trades

Lethbridge College is ready to support newcomers with an interest in trades thanks to a $300,000 Settlement, Integration and Language Projects (SILP) grant. Awarded by Alberta’s Ministry of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism, SILP funding supports projects that work toward strengthening a diverse and inclusive workforce by helping communities attract, welcome and retain newcomers.

Security training provides career development opportunities for Siksika residents

Eleven Siksika residents are benefiting from specialized career training thanks to their participation in the Security Guard and Workplace Essential Skills Training program. A unique partnership between Siksika Employment and Training Services (SETS) and Lethbridge College’s LC Extension, the six-week program provided interested individuals an opportunity to become a certified security guard in Alberta, while developing additional employability skills.

LC student part of provincial panel on newcomer experience

Congratulations go out to Dr. Juan Carlos Olivares Contreras, a student finishing the program in Lethbridge College’s English Language Centre. He was part of a six-person panel discussing the newcomer experience in Canada that kicked off the Premier’s Summit on Fairness to Newcomers on March 17 in Calgary. A physician with more than a decade of experience in Mexico, he now works as a pharmacy assistant. He hopes to serve as a doctor again.

Justice and Human Services instructors receive teaching awards

Dr. Sheila French, an instructor in the School of Justice Studies, and Christine Baccus, who teaches in the Child and Youth Care program, have been recognized with this year's Teaching Excellence and Rookie of the Year awards, respectively. Both were nominated by students, and winners are chosen by a panel of students and faculty.

Congratulations to our Employee Excellence award recipients

Each year Lethbridge College recognizes and celebrates employees who go above and beyond to promote our core values of people, excellence and success. Winners are nominated by their colleagues for Service and Innovation, Leadership and Creating Community and Lifelong Learning awards to acknowledge their phenomenal contributions to the college and commitment to the community. This year’s 14 recipients will be honoured at the college’s annual Employee Recognition Event on March 30.
