Lethbridge College to offer Indigenous Policing microcredentials

Lethbridge College will soon be offering an Indigenous Policing (Niitsitapi Inakiikawaiks) microcredential program. The suite of microcredentials – short-term, flexible learning programs designed for re-skilling or upskilling – will provide culturally appropriate education to Indigenous police services as they work to address the needs of their communities. Courses will be delivered online for asynchronous self-paced learning and will be available to current officers, cadets and – where appropriate – Lethbridge College School of Justice students.

Lethbridge College Motus system to track flightpaths of migratory birds

The School of Environmental Sciences at Lethbridge College is eager to study more about the migratory flightpaths of animals as a relatively new collaborator on the Motus Wildlife Tracking System. A program of Birds Canada, Motus is an international collaborative research network that uses telemetry – the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources – to facilitate research and education on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals. The system can track numerous species of birds, bats and even insects like dragonflies.

Lethbridge College board chair receives Platinum Jubilee Medal

The chair of Lethbridge College’s Board of Governors has received one of Alberta’s most significant public honours. Michael Marcotte, a long-time Lethbridge business owner and chair of the college’s board since 2019, was one of 19 southern Albertans awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal at a ceremony on Monday morning at the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association.

Grab your apron and preheat the oven – the Kodiak Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off is back for a third year! Now a popular tradition with Lethbridge College alumni, the contest encourages bakers of all skill levels to get creative using a custom cake recipe developed by Chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor in, and graduate of, the college’s School of Culinary Arts.

Lethbridge College to host inaugural Métis Celebration Day Nov. 16

Lethbridge College, for the first time in its history, will be hosting Métis Celebration Day to recognize the culture, history and contributions of Métis people. Each year on Nov. 16, Métis people across Canada pay tribute to the Right Honourable Louis Riel, a political leader who spent his life defending Métis rights. The celebration of culture and identity coincides with the anniversary of Riel’s execution by the Government of Canada in 1885. For the past several years, the Métis Nation of Alberta has also recognized Métis Week – the days surrounding Louis Riel Day.

Lethbridge College launches new program for students interested in health careers

Lethbridge College will launch a new certificate program this fall for students interested in pursuing in-demand careers in the health sector. The new Health Sciences certificate caters to students who may need to upgrade before entering a health-related diploma or degree program as well as to those who are waitlisted and want to start earning credits right away.
