Career Advising

Is there a cost for career advising, and who is eligible?
All career advising sessions are free. Career assessments cost $60 plus GST for current Lethbridge College students or alumni and $75 plus GST for those who have not yet attended Lethbridge College.

How long does individual career advising take?
This depends upon the individual and which career assessments that they wish to take. The first appointment is about one hour as you share information with the counsellor and complete the career assessments. A second appointment, about two hours, is scheduled to review the results of the career assessments. Additional appointments may be scheduled upon your request.

Will my career assessments tell me which program of study or occupation I should pursue?
Career assessment is the first step in the career planning process. Your advisor will review the results with you and help you identify what to consider next. The career planning process is individualized and everyone moves through this process differently.

Will the career advisor help me to write a resume and look for work?
The career advisor will help you to decide the type of work that you want. The Career Centre will help you to get that job. The Career Centre offers one-on-one appointments to help students with resume writing, interviews and connecting current students and alumni with employers.

Online career information/assessments are available through Lethbridge College. Some people may find online services sufficient, while others will use these services as a stepping stone to group sessions led by a Lethbridge College career advisor. Two low cost, and free online services are available through Lethbridge College:

Their Labour Market Information Centre helps you make informed choices about your employment future. Teamwork Training provides free workshops for individuals seeking a career or job change and includes resume writing, interview skills, career planning and job finding clubs. Individual consulting services in career planning and job search topic areas are also available. The program runs year round. Workshops are offered during the day and evenings.
