Become senior-savvy

If you enjoy working to improve the lives of seniors and the elderly, our Therapeutic Recreation – Gerontology program may be right for you. Our versatile, two-year diploma is the only therapeutic recreation diploma in Canada specializing in gerontology. Your studies will prepare you to work with this growing population, learning the skills necessary to plan and execute recreational activities, including functional intervention, leisure education and recreational participation programming. You’ll also develop a well-balanced understanding of the aging process. Trained practitioners are in high demand.

Therapeutic Recreation is right for you if you:

  • possess good oral and written communication skills
  • are able to establish rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • have strong organizational and leadership skills
  • enjoy consulting with people, developing, directing and co-ordinating innovative programs.

Put your passion to the test

We’ll put you where the action is with two 320-hour fieldwork placements, where you’ll have the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills to practice. With the help of a program fieldwork advisor, you can determine the placement that’s right for you, where you will be supervised by a professional in the field. You’ll be ready for meaningful employment in no time.
