Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician

Tackle the world’s MEAN machines and transform your future

Turn your knack for maintenance and machinery into an exciting career. The Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician program will get you on the road to working with the steel giants that modern society uses every day. Our one-year certificate gives you the versatility to work in agricultural and/or heavy-duty diesel equipment repair. In small classes, you’ll learn about suspensions, power trains, steering, brakes, diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical systems and mobile hydraulics. Our state-of-the-art shop will equip you with all the latest tools and technologies, helping you lay out a solid foundation in this fast-paced industry.

Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician is right for you if you have:

  • mechanical ability and an interest in all types of machinery and engines, electronics and precision equipment
  • good vision, hearing and sense of smell to diagnose problems
  • the strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment and work in cramped or awkward positions
  • the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • the ability to think logically and keep up to date with changes in technology.

Cement the path to success

You’ll get a world of hands-on experience participating in a two-week practicum, where you’ll work one-on-one with qualified journeymen technicians at a real repair facility. But, your options don’t stop there: upon completion of the program, you will be able to write exams for the first two years of Agricultural Equipment Technician or the first two years of Heavy Equipment Technician. You will also be eligible to enter the Alberta Apprenticeship program. So, you’ll be working towards a career you enjoy in virtually no time at all. For a machine maniac like you, it doesn’t get any better than this.
