Lethbridge College New Student Orientation welcomes students to fall semester

Aug. 29, 2014 – Lethbridge College is kicking off the school year with its New Student Orientation (NSO) on Tuesday. NSO is presented by ATB Financial and features keynote speaker Lauren Toyota. This is the seventh year that Lethbridge College has partnered with ATB Financial to provide new students with orientation programming. Orientation shows new students the support services and activities available to them throughout the school year.

“It’s always exciting for us to see the new students on their first day at the college,” says ATB Financial Vice-President South Region Rob Smith. “Having the opportunity to work with Lethbridge College to provide a meaningful and informative day for these students and their parents is a great way for ATB Financial to support our community.”

All new students are expected to attend NSO as it is an essential component to their student success. Students will begin checking in at 8 a.m. in Centre Core, with program orientation starting at 9 a.m. sharp

Lauren Toyota, this year’s special guest at NSO, is a former MTV Canada host and appeared on the weekly popular after-school show After Degrassi as well as on MTV News. Toyota is approaching a 10-year run on Canadian television where she speaks her mind about pop culture, social issues, and trending topics, and documented her real-life experiences and interests.

Toyota will be speaking to students at 11 a.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium and will be available for media interviews at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the Centre Core.

“We’ve made some positive changes to NSO this year including a free lunch sponsored by the Lethbridge College Students’ Association,” says Manager of Student Engagement and Retention Nancy Russell. “Along with increasing awareness of available support services, students can connect with their faculty and classmates while learning more about their program choice during orientation.”

Lethbridge College will have select services open throughout the Labour Day long weekend for new and returning students including academic advising, the bookstore, Buchanan Library, financial services and residence.
