Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

  • Do you need more English?
  • Are you 18 years of age or older?
  • Are you a Permanent Resident of Canada (not a Canadian Citizen)?
  • Can you come to daytime classes Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. – 2:35 p.m.?
  • Do you have an assessment from SALAS that was completed within the last year?
  • Are your mastered Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 3, 3, 2, 2 or above for Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing?

If your answer is YES to all of the questions, here is what you do:

  1. Contact SALAS to receive a CLB Assessment:

  2. If your Assessment score is above 3, 3, 2, 2; contact the English Language Centre.

LINC at Lethbridge College provides:

  • A full-time or part-time ESL program. 
  • Skill area classes at different CLB levels.
  • Employment and settlement-related information and readiness activities.
  • Education and career planning.
  • Bridging with other Lethbridge College courses such as:
    - Upgrading
    - Trades (culinary, automotive, carpentry, etc.)
    - Environmental Sciences
    - Computer Information Technology
    - Fashion Design and Marketing
    - Business Administration
    - Early Childhood Education 

Beyond the classroom:

  • Connecting to the community through fieldtrips (local and area), cultural celebrations and guest speakers.
  • On-campus activities such as coffee-party mixers, free admission to Kodiak games, and working with other college programs

The Government of Canada provides funding to support this initiative.
