Even though you’ve just started a new school year, there are a couple of things to keep in mind as you continue your academic career. We’re proud to say that Lethbridge College grads are sent out into the world with the skills they need to take on any number of jobs or further learning opportunities related to their studies here. Whether you’re looking to enter the workforce immediately upon program completion or planning to further your education, we can offer advice that will help ease the transition.
The Career Centre, located in TE1220, can help you navigate the job search process. Many employers contact Lethbridge College directly to post job ads – you’ll find those located on the Career Centre’s online database. In addition, they can give you resumé and interview tips (like remembering to put your awesome practicum experience on your resumé). Make sure to attend Career Conference, on November 21, 2012 to get a head start by connecting with potential future employers and industry representatives. Many prospective employers will schedule information sessions around this time, so make sure to watch the bulletin boards on campus. Finding your post-graduation job will be exciting, enjoy the opportunity to find a job that’s a great “fit”.
If you’re planning to continue your education after your time at Lethbridge College, speak with an Academic Advisor to help develop a plan. Many of our programs have transfer agreements in place, for example: our Communications Arts program has a transfer agreement with Griffith University in Queensland, Australia! This means you receive credit for the time you’ve spent with us. Check out our Programs page to see where your program can take you. If you don’t see a transfer agreement to an institution you were thinking of attending, you will want to contact that institution. They will be able to tell you which classes they will take as transfer credit. The Alberta Transfer Guide can help you determine which of your classes will transfer to other post-secondary institutions in Alberta. Again, feel free to bring the information you’ve discovered to an Academic Advising appointment and they’ll help you develop a plan for your time here.
As you look towards completing your credential, you can keep track of how far you are from the finish line using the “Program Evaluation” tool – login to MyHorizon and click “Student Information” to access it.
Enjoy your time with us this coming year!
