"I try every day to demonstrate kindness towards others. The Pay it Forward initiative enables one to participate in a collective act of kindness. A small effort of an individual can make a group effort stronger.

It is an unexpected pleasure to benefit from the Pay it Forward program."

August 2011
Estela Mayen

"I am so happy to be the winner of this month. God is my priority; I am grateful to him and give thanks. I encourage everyone who is not in the Pay it Forward 50/50 draw to come in to the Advancement Office and fill out an application, and you could be the next winner and help a student get a scholarship."

July 2011
Sandy Vanderburgh

"It's fun to win and, more importantly, to see so many employees donating money towards students scholarships. Students are our most important asset and the Pay it Forward program helps them pursue their post-secondary education."

June 2011
Carole Mickey

Wow!  Totally did not expect that – it really took me by surprise.  I never expected to win; I only participate to help support students at Lethbridge College.   Scholarships not only help young people to reach for their dreams, but they reward success and recognize their hard work.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate and invest in this opportunity!

Chris Aitken

"When I signed up for the Pay if Forward program, I was honestly just happy to contribute to something going back to the students.  Winning ‘15 Large’ is a fantastic parting gift for my last week at Lethbridge College! It just makes sense to be a part of this."

April 2011
Kelly Morris

"I literally couldn't believe it when I heard I won the Pay it Forward draw. I think I was in denial at first, "how could it be? I never win anything, and now I've won twice?" I chalk it up to the luck of the new name! I feel not only lucky, but blessed to win this money, and right before my honeymoon too. I only hope that the student's that win the scholarships created by the Pay it Forward draw feel the same when they find out a scholarship will help them reach their goals.

I encourage EVERYONE, staff, students, alumni and the community to get involved in this draw. It changes lives!"

March 2011
Dave Daniels

"Wow, was I surprised to win the Pay it Forward draw. What timing, my home computer crashed and I was dreaming of an upgrade an now it will be a reality.

I hope each student who benefits from the scholarships this program has created will experience the same feeling of excitement I did with the win. What an excellent way to help our students and also re-affirm to me how lucky I am to be employed at the college.

I challenge everyone to enter. Tell your friends and family to jump on board and they too can be surprised on payday."

February 2011
Karen O'Dwyer

Absolutely shocked!  When the Pay it Forward program began, I was eager to support the program because of how much I valued scholarships both as a student and as an educator.  I never thought for a moment that I would  win.  Kudos to Alumni Relations in initiating a great program that enables us to give back and help make a difference for our students.”

January 2011
Henry Komadowski

"Few students have the resources available to allow them to go to school full time. Pay it Forward is a great way to help others achieve their educational goals.

I remember what it was like working two jobs while being a full time student. We can all show our commitment to education by participating in Pay it Forward.

Winning is an added bonus!"

What a great surprise to win the November Pay it Forward draw! I got involved in Pay it Forward as a way to assist current and future students at Lethbridge College. Pay it Forward is a great program and I encourage everyone to get involved – let’s see that jackpot grow!

I believe this is an excellent investment strategy…you are investing in the Office of Alumni Relations by supporting their work AND you may win; and that’s why
it’s such a fantastic investment in so many ways!

September 2010
Helen Eichorn

I’m ecstatic and shocked to win Pay it Forward. I never dreamed I could be in the winner’s group. I joined the scholarship program because I wanted to give something of value back to the students. They’ve given me so much since I started working here… they are the reason I have a great job. I get tremendous pleasure out of helping them any way I can. I encourage everyone to join this wonderful rewarding program!

Ron won the August draw for Pay it Forward, his first month in the draw.

July 2010

What a great surprise on my first day back from holidays! We are redoing our backyard so the MOOLA will likely go towards that. New fence, new sod, maybe some raspberry bushes!

Thanks again! I’m so excited :)

Have a great day…I know I will!

June 2010
Carolyn Clark

Total, total surprise to hear I won the June Pay It Forward draw. My last ‘big’ win was a toilet seat when I put my name in on a grand opening draw at a local hardware store.  The money will be used to help with home renovations and for spoiling my grandchildren on their summer holidays.

May 2010
Linda Duval

I never thought I would ever win Pay it Forward. What a wonderful surprise on such a wet and dreary day! As a faculty member, I've always viewed this scholarship program as an easy way to support student success beyond the classroom.

Pay it Forward is a win-win for students and the entire College community.

"I have been told many times that I am a lucky person. I consider all of my good "luck" to be the blessings in my life: good health, a supportive family, and a fantastic job at the College. November 2009
Kelly Burke won $1280

"I never win anything, so literally could not stop shaking when we matched the number drawn by our guest speaker Karla Guyn with the names on the list. This goes to show EVERYONE has a chance to win, all you have to do is throw in 10 bucks a month. (Students and community too!)

As an alumna, current Athabasca student and staff of the college there was no question that I would be involved in this draw, and will continue to be. What a great cause and a great success. Now it is your turn to Pay it Forward."

October 2009
Rick Blakeley won $1260

"I joined Pay it Forward to support the Office of Alumni Relations. I never thought I would win, and considered it a donation to a very worthy group who support our learning community. Let the fun begin… the odds are better than the lottery. I challenge the rest of the faculty to join the fun and support the cause. Let's find out which school can provide the most support through simple payroll deductions to Pay it Forward."

September 2009
Gwen Kanashiro won $1170

"I was absolutely shocked to win - may have even uttered an expletive in disbelief! The 50/50 is a wonderful initiative for students and I knew I wouldn't miss $10.00 off my pay check - I spend more than that on inconsequential things every week! Hopefully more people will sign up - I challenge everyone in Enrolment Management and Learner Services to do so."

August 2009
Nora Hansen won $1070

"I'm very grateful (and was very surprised) to win this wonderful award. I very much encourage everyone to join Pay it Forward so that we can help others continue their education for the future of this nation. I believe we are all winners because the money collected will be used for a good cause - and because we believe in them."

July 2009
Earl Nilsson won $1035

"The announcement that my name had been drawn for the Pay it Forward draw in July came at a particularly opportune time - the day before we were to leave on a bit of a holiday. What a pleasant surprise!

Win or not, I gladly contribute to the Pay it Forward idea. The cause is a worthy one as it provides financial assistance to students, while the cost to me makes no noticeable impact on my standard of living whatsoever. Knowing that I am contributing in some small way to the student scholarship fund makes me feel good and I encourage others who are not contributing to give it a try. It won't hurt a bit, honest."

June 2009
Cindy Warner won $1115

Unbelievable! I couldn't believe my good fortune when I was told I won the June Pay it Forward draw. The timing couldn't have been better as I was about to leave on summer vacation, and who doesn't like having extra holiday cash? I joined the Pay it Forward program because it's an easy and inexpensive way to support our students. I thought my participation would benefit them. It turns out participating in Pay it Forward has been extremely beneficial to me!"

This is a great way to donate to the student scholarships and I really encourage everyone to get involved."

Now I wait for more money."

Tell your friends and family to jump on board and they too can be surprised on payday."

December 2008
Cindy Rath won $1075

"After a fairly rough road trip to work on Dec. 24, I was ecstatic to win Pay it Forward for the month of December - talk about perfect timing! Even though I tried to go lightly on Christmas spending, it rarely works out that way so the winnings made me breathe a little earier that's for sure! It is a great way to give back to the College and I am delighted to see the total scholarship monies raised-to-date for college students. I encourage everyone to hop on board and be a Pay it Forward participant… you could be a lucky winner like myself!"

September 2008

Cindy Warner won $1,000

"I am thrilled to be this month's Pay it Forward winner. I signed up initially because I liked the fact that the proceeds go to student scholarships. Having been a recipient of scholarships in the past and with a son in post secondary education who has also received scholarships, I know how much students appreciate receiving them. I am happy to participate in Pay It Forward because it is one way for me to support our college students. Winning September's draw was a nice bonus!"

August 2008

Sarah Norgard won $925

Winning Pay it Forward was an amazing surprise! I began participating in it because I thought it was a great way to give back to the College—both to the students and the community. July 2008

Tracy Edwards won $910

"I was delighted to win Pay it Forward for the month of July. This initiative is definitely a "win-win"… it provides badly needed scholarships for our students and a windfall for the lucky recipient! I'd encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile endeavour."

May 2008

Kathy Waddell won $1,000

"When I learned I was the winner of the Pay It Forward draw of $1000, I was absolutely thrilled! I'd been planning a trip to England to visit a friend, and this money would come in very handy. However, the day after learning I was the winner, I received my property tax notice from the City of Lethbridge, and the bill was for just over $1,000, so the money had to go for that! In the end, the money did not go toward something wild and exciting, but necessary none-the less. Thanks to Pay It Forward, my bills got paid on time!"

kathy_waddell.jpg

April 2008

Rosemary Tworkowski won $990

"I still have the Pay it Forward winnings, saving for my Cuban Adventures trip in February 2009. I'm so excited, I can't wait to do some sight-seeing in old Havana, sit on the beach with an umbrella drink and hopefully I'll build up enough courage to swim with the dolphins. Not all in that order, but nonetheless I'm going to have fun!"

rose_tworkowski.jpg

March 2008

Jennifer Davis won $980

I signed up for Pay it Forward mainly to contribute towards the scholarship. I never expected to win, and I certainly didn’t sign up hoping to win. At the time I told myself that if by some chance I ever won I would donate my winnings back to the college. When I did win I admit I used part of the money to buy myself a new iPod, but the rest I used to help fund a conference trip for the ECE students I was teaching at the time. I’m glad to be able to participate in the Pay it Forward program, and even happier to have been able to have had the chance to Pay it Forward again.
