Nominate excellent Lethbridge College alumni
Sept. 22, 2016 – Lethbridge College is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2017, which means there are six decades of outstanding alumni excelling in countless careers all across the globe. And the college is asking for nominations for the very best among them.
“Nearly every day, and no matter where I am in southern Alberta, I run into Lethbridge College grads,” says David Cocks, chair of the college’s Alumni Advisory Council. “And that is just a small sample of the thousands of alumni that we know are doing great things across Canada and around the world. We want to learn about and recognize those who have built tremendous careers from the education they received at Lethbridge College.”
Nominations are now open for outstanding alumni who will be recognized at the 2017 Honouring Excellence event. Any of the more than 30,000 college graduates, of any age and in any field, are eligible to be nominated for one of four Honouring Excellence awards, based on their work in their careers, in the community and in the college.
The Distinguished Alumni award was established in 1992 to commemorate the college’s 35th anniversary. This prestigious award recognizes college graduates who have marked themselves in their chosen careers, made a significant contribution to their communities and demonstrated service to the college and its students.
The other three alumni awards were established in 2007 to commemorate the college’s 50th anniversary. The Community Leader award is presented to alumni who have made contributions to their communities through their work or personal interests. The Career Virtuoso award is presented to alumni who have made significant contributions to their professional fields through their diligence, talent and dedication. The Rising Star award is presented to alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from Lethbridge College, have become driven innovators in their professions.
“We hope that every student leaves the college and becomes a proud alumnus or alumna,” says Executive Director of Advancement and External Relations Michel Béchard. “And we want them to know that we appreciate them sharing their memories of the college and helping to spread the word about what we offer. We encourage all alumni and community members to consider nominating those graduates who have truly gone above and beyond in their time since leaving our walls.”
Since 1992, more than 85 graduates have received alumni awards from Lethbridge College. The 2016 recipients were Distinguished Alumni Darryl Kenna (Business Administration 1993), Career Virtuoso Lisa Ford (Communication Arts 1984), Community Leader Kimberly Schmidt (Multimedia Production 2008) and Rising Star Rob Parsons (Welder Apprenticeship Training 2010).
Further information on award categories and nomination forms are available online. The nomination deadline is Jan. 9, 2017. The awards will be presented at a recognition event on April 27, 2017.
