Grant Funding

Alberta Works and Canada/Alberta Works funding is non-repayable grant funding available to eligible learners in eligible programs. Some full-time funded learners even receive a  living allowance.

You may be eligible if you:

  • are a current resident of Alberta
  • are unemployed or underemployed
  • demonstrate financial need based on Alberta government standards http://www.employment.alberta.ca/documents/AWonline/EMP5585.pdf
  • lack the skills training needed to find sustainable employment
  • have been out of the regular (K-12) school system for at least 12 consecutive months
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada
  • have a career goal
  • and are interested in pursuing one of the following programs

What is your next step? There are quite a few but the payoff is considerable!

1. PreScreen and Person Registration: Download Form

Complete the Pre-Screen form to see if you are likely to be eligible. If you can honestly answer "yes" to all of the questions or have extenuating circumstances, please also complete the "Register a Person" form (the second page of the document) and bring the documents in to the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office OR scan them and email them to  awards@lethbridgecollege.ca

A Funding Specialist will advise you to continue with the application if everything appears to be in order, either in person or by phone/email. Additional forms must be completed to continue the process. These are:

Alberta Works full time training/funding application is downloadable as a paper form at EMP 5569 Learner Income Support Application (Full Time Study)  or  http://www.employment.alberta.ca/documents/emp5569-learner-income-support-application.pdf (this version is electronically fillable and has built-in support so you don't miss an answer and provides clarification).

3. For both full-time and part-time studies a completed Career Investigation Report is required:  http://www.employment.alberta.ca/documents/AWonline/career_report.pdf

5. You may want to look  into the living allowance benefits (the funded learner is allowed to work while in studies without penalty) at: http://www.employment.alberta.ca/documents/AWonline/EMP5585(2012).pdf
